It is no mean thing to perform in front of Presidents, Prime Ministers, world leaders, and Madonna.

Our resident DIVA, Ning Baizura, has more or less perfected the art of looking unruffled and unfazed when faced with a barrage of tough questions. She laughs off seemingly intrusive questions, subtly side-steps issues that she prefers not to engage, and changes the subject seamlessly while seeming to answer the question at hand. Now this is a master at work.

Ning was a guest artiste at TV3's latest live talk show SENSASI (Sensational). It was a full house at the FINAS Sound Stage at Gombak and Ning was in fine form, and the show went live at 11pm across the nation for one hour last Tuesday.

The topic was how Ning has coped with and withstood controversies, and emerged triumphant every time. Fara, a new artiste currently battling with controversies too, was also a guest. Host Awal asked relevant and sometimes, hard questions.

Ning, I thought, handled the questions deftly. I like to think that Ning, like me, is just extremely good at effortlessly throwing plenty of verbs and nouns into very long sentences that seem like answers. The DIVA's performance tonight was an excellent textbook example of how to quietly manage and control an interview without seeming to do so.

So all my years of forcing making Ning watch the Maria Callas/Lord Isherwood Conversations have paid off. La Callas would certainly have approved.

After the show, MELODI, a sister programme of SENSASI, interviewed Ning for their weekend updates.

And in other news...

From left to right: Josie Thomas (lead guitar), Aubrey Suwito (music director, keyboards), and Andy Peterson (bass).

From left to right: Steve Thornton (percussions), Lewis Pragasam (drums), and Jamie Wilson (guitar).

Jamie Wilson and Ning Baizura sans make-up or big hair or coloured contacts. (She would so kill me.)

These are the artiste and six musicians that will be making Malaysia proud in 10 days' time at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

We leave sunny and hot Kuala Lumpur next Tuesday night and arrive freezing Zurich the following day. I am excited! It is no mean thing to perform in front of Presidents, Prime Ministers, world leaders, and Madonna. (I had better bring my tranquilisers and a bottle of brandy.)

I am NOT looking forward to the 13 hour flight, though.
